Bowood Bison
Naturally Raised
Currently our bison is available for purchase at our store in St. Louis. We have frozen ground bison and bison steaks as well as bison jerky and snack sticks. We are currently unable to ship any Bison products.
Bowood Farms is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Pike County Missouri in the Upper Mississippi River Valley. The farm is in its fourth generation of family ownership. Know for its registered Shorthorn cattle herd in the past, the farm is now concentrating on raising bison for the future.
Bison evolved during the last ten thousand years as an integral part of the central United States. They are efficient grazing animals that utilize the native grasses and forbs of the Midwest and have a symbiotic relationship with the prairie ecosystems in which they co-evolved.
The bison herd on our farm lives in interrelated family social groups. Their social order allows for all the necessary elements of a functional herd structure to be expressed. Dominant cows and herd bulls provide appropriate leadership and protection while passing on those skills to the younger members of the herd. We take a hands off approach and allow for the social structure to provide the appropriate balance. We do not administer hormones, steriods or antibiotics and try to maintain a peaceful and stress free environment.
