Melissa officinalis

Melissa officinalis (Lemon Balm)

Lemon Balm

White flowers in late summer. Leaves are ovate with a delicious lemon scent and flavor.

Growing & Maintenance Tips
Full sun or partial shade in a well-drained soil. Wet soils in winter may cause older plants to die, but seedlings generally develop to assume their place in the garden. Lemon balm can be used for a tea or the chopped leaves are nice additions to salads, stews, and soups. It serves as a bee plant, particularly useful in attracting bees to new hives.

Interesting Information
Melissa is Greek for bee, referring to its quality as a bee plant. Pliny noted that bees chose lemon balm over other plants.
