Light green fronds with deeply bloed pinnae, upright fertile fronds are shorter and aligned with "beads" of pinnae bearing spores that persist through winter.

Grows well in part to full sun in moist-wet garden soil. Often grown in wet habitats, naturalized wooded areas.
Interesting Information
Called sensitive because it dies back after first frost. Onoclea sensibilis has been around for a long time. Fossils identical to modern plants have been found in Paleocene rocks in Canada-rocks that date back more than 54 millon years.
