Fountain grass is extremely adaptable, growing injust about any soil that is moist, well-drained, and in full sun. Fountain grass is attractive in mass plantings or groups and as a single specimen. Plants make excellent midborder or back-of-the-border candidates.

Pennisetum is derived form penna, a feather, and seta, a bristle, and refers to the feathery bristles (awns).
