Aquilegia canadensis

Aquilegia canadensis (Wild Columbine)

Wild Columbine

Several semi-pendent, bell-shaped flowers with yellow sepals and red spurs. Fern-like dark green foliage.

Growing & Maintenance Tips
Does well in partial shade in well-drained soil. Great in rock ledges, rocky slopes in woods, ravines, bluffs.

Interesting Information
Aquilegia, Latin, either from aquila, "eagle" for the floral spurs, or from aqua, "water" & legere, "to collect", for the fluid in the hollow spurs. This is a good cutflower, and attracts hummingbirds.
