Persist in moist soils, if dry will go dormant in July. Stylophorum is a charming plant for the shaded moist woodland garden or the shaded perennial border. It is one of the more noticeable wild flowers for spring bloom.

Stylophorum, Greek, "style-bearing"; diphyllum, Greek, "two-leaved" (the stem leaves). The yellow sap was used as a dye by American Indians.
