Tradescantia 'Blue and Gold (Sweet Kate)'

Tradescantia (Spiderwort)

Spiderwort

Triangular, violet-blue blossoms with sulphur-yellow stamens. This plant has a lot of buds, extending the bloom time up to 8 weeks. The flowers are 'self-cleaning', so deadheading is not necessary. Brilliant gold foliage that is outstanding even when viewed from a distance. To keep it from scorching, afternoon shade and consitant moisture is recommended.

Growing & Maintenance Tips
Full shade to partial shade in moist soils. Cut back old foliage in the summer, so new flush of foliage will return to fall. Border planting, naturalized shade areas, and wild gardens.

Interesting Information
Tradescantia is named for the plant collector, John Tradescant, who on a plant collection trip to the United States, sent this genus back to England in the 17th century.
