Full to partial shade, good organic matter content for water retention. Good groundcover, attractive all season, shade of tall trees, border garden, rock garden, pools and massed plantings in the shade. Excellent specimen plant.

Interesting Information
Hosta was named for Nicolaus Thomas Host, a 19th century Austrian physician. The common name plaintainlily is in reference to the resemblance of the leaves to those of the lawn weed, plaintain.
